Core Athlete Profile: Caite Kappel

Age: 41 years old (mom of 2)
Occupation: Portfolio Manager in asset management
Why DPB: Participating in endurance sports and pushing myself both mentally and physically in sport has helped me immensely in my own recovery journey. DPB’s mission is so important and the use of fitness/endurance goals for people struggling with addiction and/or mental health can be an effective outlet to aid in recovery.
Favorite challenge: It’s hard to pick just one favorite challenge, but I would probably go with running Rim2Rim of the Grand Canyon because of the amount of planning that went into the challenge, the difficulty of the conditions and the immense beauty of the Canyon.
Most difficult challenge: My most difficult challenge so far was probably our 5-mile swim to Plum Island in 2021, with Spencer, Drew and Kyle. This was my first major channel swim and was marked by cold water temps and loads of stinging Lion’s Mane jellyfish. Stepping foot onto Plum Island was an incredible feeling that has stuck with me.
Next objective: Next objective is swimming 12 miles across Lake Tahoe in July and of course a few DPB swims this summer!
